Love Bunny Amigurumi – Free crochet pattern by Roaming Pixies

Construction
The Amigurumi bunny rabbit is created in two separate pieces (plus ears). The front side has a motif heart, so has colour changes as you work. The reverse side is worked in one colour. The pieces are then seamed together and finally, the ears are attached at the end.So here it is. I hope you enjoy this free crochet pattern. Feel free to ask any questions or leave comments below.

Gauge
I used bulky yarn – 16 ply yarn and a 5.5 mm hook, though you can make it in any yarn weight, as long as you adjust your hook to suit. Keep in mind this will change the size of the finished toy. My softie Amigurumi bunny measures approximately 5.5 inches (14 cm) plus ears.

Yardage
I used approximately 52.5 yards (48 m) to make my bunny.

Front Side

Section One

For the sake of ease I have written each step as a “round”, however Section 1 includes a combination of both rounds and rows. The changes are specified in the pattern. The chains do not count as a stitch.

Rnd 1   7sc in magic circle but do not join (7)

Rnd 2   ch 2 turn, (2 hdc, 2sc ) in first st, sc in next 2 sts, 3sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, (2sc, 2 hdc) in last st – To fasten off pull the thread through your last st worked. That is, don’t slip stitch into first st to fasten off, as you will lose the shape of your heart. You can secure this loose thread now, or when you are finished the front piece. (13)

Rnd 3   Attach CC1 with slip stitch into the centre of the magic circle ch 1, sc in same stitch, sc into the side of ch 2, 2 sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 5 sts, 3sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts, 2sc in next 2 sts, sc in side of hdc, Fasten off using the invisible join method. Refer to notes. (21) You will now work in continuous rounds.

Rnd 4   Attach CC2 in beginning stitch (i.e. the stitch formed with the invisible join). Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next 3 sts, sc in next 6 sts, 3sc in next st, (bottom of heart), sc in next 6 sts, 2sc in next 3 sts, sc in last 2 sts (29)

Rnd 5   sc in 6 sts, 2sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts 2sc in next st, sc in next st, 2sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 5 sts,  2sc in next 2sts, sc in next st, 2sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts, 2sc in next st, sc in last 5 sts (37)

Rnd 6   sc in 5 sts, *sc in next st, 2sc in next st* twice, sc in next 5 sts, 2sc in next st, sc in next 11 sts,  2sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts, *2sc in next st, sc in next* twice, sc in last 4 sts (43). Do not fasten off. Continue to next section.

Section Two

This section is worked entirely in rows. The chain at beginning does not count as a stitch.

Row 1   sc in next 8 sts

Row 2-3   ch 1, turn, sc in first st, and next 14 sts across [2 rounds] (15)

Row 4   ch 1, turn, sc in first st, sc2tog, sc in next 9 sts, sc2tog, sc in last st (13)
Row 5   ch 1, turn, sc in each st across (13)

Row 6  ch 1, turn, sc in first st, sc2tog, sc in next 7 sts, sc2tog, sc in last st (11)
Row 7  ch 1, turn, sc in each st across (11)

Row 8   ch 1, turn, sc in first st, sc2tog, sc in next 5 sts, sc2tog, sc in last st (9)

Row 9   ch 1, turn, sc in first st, sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog, sc in last st (7)

Row 10   ch 1, turn, sc in first st, sc2tog, sc in next st, sc2tog, sc in last st (5)
Fasten off, leaving a long length of yarn to seam the bunny pieces together.

Reverse Side

The reverse side is worked the same as the front but with one difference. That is, you will work in one colour so will not need to fasten off or reattach yarn as you did for the front side. This makes some slight adjustments in the first few rounds.

N.b – Keep in mind, as with the front side, the reverse side – Section 1 – is a combination of both rounds and rows but I refer to each step as a round.

Rnd 1   7sc in magic circle but do not join (7)

Rnd 2   ch 2 turn, (2 hdc, 2sc ) in first st, sc in next 2 sts, 3sc in next st, sc in next 2 sts, (2sc, 2 hdc) in last st  You will now work in continuous rounds.

Rnd 3   sc in middle of magic circle stitch, sc into the side of ch 2, 2 sc in next 2 sts, sc in next 5 sts, 3sc in next st, sc in next 5 sts, 2sc in next 2 sts,

Rnd 4   2sc in first st, sc in next 2 sts, 2sc in next 3 sts, sc in next 6 sts, 3sc in next st, (bottom of heart), sc in next 6 sts, 2sc in next 3 sts, sc in last 2 sts

Note – the last stitch worked will go into the first st of the same round. This will even out your count to be the same as the front side. Now, you can continue work to work the reverse the same as the front side. Begin at Round 5.

Ears (Make 2)

Work in continuous rounds

Rnd 1   6sc in magic circle

Rnd 2   *sc, 2sc in next st* repeat around (9)

Rnd 3-4   sc in each st around (9)

Rnd 5  *sc, sc2tog* repeat around (6)

Rnd 6-8   sc in each st around [3 rounds] (6)   Fasten off, leaving enough yarn to attach ears to bunny rabbit.

Assembly

Now it’s time to get that bunny in one piece. Line up the front and reverse side, wrong sides facing, and whip stitch the edges together. Alternatively, you might like to work a reverse crab stitch in a contrast colour for something a little different.   If using safety eyes ensure you put them in place before seaming the bunny shut. Don’t forget to add your stuffing too!   Attach the ears to the bunny’s head. I like to work through the outer loop stitches of the piece I am attaching.   Finally, embroider the face details as desired. I used a buttons for the nose and eyes, and used fingering yarn to embroider the whiskers. Feel free, to create the facial features of your bunny in your own way. Just keep in mind if it is for a baby/toddler it’s best to embroider the facial details rather than use small parts.   So that’s it!   Your love bunny Amigurumi toy is complete. Love, hug, enjoy!
