An ad-free downloadable version of this pattern is available at my Etsy or Love Crochet shop for a small fee.

Pattern Notes

Pattern is written in US terminology.

The storage cocoons are worked in the round.

When you are working into the chain space you are working an increase. The decreases are formed by decreasing the main chain amount by half i.e. the spaces of the cocoon are formed by making 4 chains. Once you reach round 7 you will work some spaces with only 2 chains, so you’ll be working decreases by halving the main chain amount. If you keep this in mind, you can easily adjust this pattern to any size. For example, if you work 8 ch as your main count, then you just simply halve that chain number for the decreases in Rnd 7-9, so you will do 4 ch for the decreases. The rest of the pattern is exactly the same. For example, if you work your spaces with 16 chains then the decreases are 8 chains. If you work your spaces as 10 chains, then your decreases are 5 chains. So you can adjust your pattern to be bigger or smaller by changing this chain amount.

If it all seems too confusing, then don’t worry, just follow the pattern exactly as is.

Gauge

Gauge is not important for this pattern. You can adjust the hook and yarn size as desired (see the pattern notes), but keep in mind the size of the finished object will vary.

Materials

15mm hook – or any size to suit your yarn
Aran (10 ply) yarn (8wpi)
You can alternate hook size and yarn weight as long as you establish gauge

T-shirt yarn is relatively easy to find these days. But you can save even more dollars by making your own. There are lots of online craft tutorials teaching you how to make your own t-shirt yarn.
