How to Crochet Booties – A Free Pattern – 5 sizes

Careful shaping gives these crochet booties adorable ‘little ‘footprint’ soles.

They are cute, cosy and a comfortable fit too. These booties are also super quick to crochet as each bootie is worked in under 10 rounds! In fact, these booties are so fast to make, they are perfect for whipping up as last-minute gifts for baby showers or welcoming home gifts.

Below is a detailed free pattern on how to make these booties in 5 different sizes.

Otherwise, an ad-free downloadable version of this pattern is available at my Etsy or Love Crochet shop. A UK terminology pattern is included with the downloadable version.

Pattern Notes

Pattern is written in US terminology.

The beginning dc of each round can be worked in either two ways:

Ch1 in the pattern does not count as a stitch. Also, ignore this chain when joining. Joining the fpdc/bpdc rounds.

The beginning ch 2 in the final ribbing rounds does not count as a stitch. When joining each round, join to the top of the fpdc stitch and simply push the ch 2 behind the stitch.

Changing Colour
The pattern indicates when to change to contrast colour. For the neatest finish, change the colour on the last stitch of the previous round. Pull through the new colour on the last yarn over of the dc.

Photo Guide

After you have worked your beginning chain, you work into the top loop only of the chain. Please note the chain count varies between right and left booties (and sizes). The photo is just to show you where to place the first st, regardless of chain count.

Little Footprints Booties – free crochet pattern by Roaming Pixies

This is what a right bootie (0-3months) looks like when the first half of Rnd 1 is complete. The next step is to work on the underside of the chain, into the bottom loops. I have marked each loop with a line and number to show where to work the stitches. Remember, the same method applies for the left bootie and larger/smaller sizes but the stitch count will vary.

Below is Rnd 2 complete. This round finishes the construction of the sole. If you would like your sole a different colour than the rest of the bootie, change colour after this round.

Below is Rnd 5 complete. After this round, you will change to the contrast colour for edging. Note how I’ve pulled through the new colour before joining with a slip stitch to the first stitch. The first stitch of the round is marked with the bobby pin.

Rnd 7 complete. The image below shows a top view of the crochet bootie. The ribbing rounds begin with ch 2. Remember, like all your beginning chain stitches, this ch2 does not count as a stitch. Just push it to the back and join into the first fpdc.

Depending on bootie size, you will either repeat another 1 or 2 rounds of edging to complete your bootie.

I hope you enjoyed this free pattern : )
