Learn How to do Filet Crochet with this Easy Beanie Pattern
Finishing off the Hat without Curls
Leave a small tail (approx. 4-6 inches) and make a chain. Lay the chain across one curved line to check for length, as pictured below. You don’t have to be exact as you can adjust the length later. Place the last stitch on a stitch holder.
Next, pick up your beginning tail with your needle. Work with the hat facing you. Begin at the bottom of the hat. Work the chain thread from the wrong side through the first chain space, to the right side of the hat. Now work back through the next chain space – see the image below.
Continue working your needle over and under all the chain spaces in the line. If your chain gets twisted, make any adjustments necessary to have the chain strand lying flat, with the right side of the chain showing upwards.
Now turn you hat inside out to weave in your ends.
For top/crown of your hat – work the tail through the closest stitch possible, just above the chain space. I find the two vertical stitches from the first round work best, as pictured.
Weave the thread back and forth through the hump stitches on the underside of the chain – see the image below. Snip off the excess yarn.
For the bottom of the hat: First, check the chain length and add or detract any stitches as necessary. Fasten off. Now work the end tail the same as you did for the curls method above.
Repeat the steps to add each new colour strand.
And that’s it! Your hat is complete!
Add a pompom if desired.
